The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is optimistic about recovering Rs. 250 billion in tax revenue currently tied up in litigation, within the next two months, according to official sources.
To accelerate the legal process, special constitutional benches have been established in both the Supreme Court and High Courts. These benches are now hearing key tax cases on a daily basis to ensure faster resolution.
Out of a total of Rs. 850 billion stuck in court cases, the FBR believes it has a strong chance—almost 100%—of winning cases amounting to Rs. 250 billion. Recently, the FBR successfully recovered Rs. 20 billion from two major companies.
However, cases involving super tax claims worth Rs. 200 billion are still awaiting decisions in the courts, while another Rs. 600 billion remains entangled in various tribunals across the country.
The FBR’s recent efforts highlight its commitment to improving revenue collection by actively pursuing high-stakes litigation.
